Chomedey Inn

We ended up spending hours in the tub watching old TV and movies, then stayed in bed for more than twelve hours, ordering Shawarman straight to the room and sleeping soundly. That's a pretty good upgrade from the one night we originally booked just to catch up on sleep and watch cable in bed. The standard two bed room, 204, was clean and simple, and the price was unbeatable. We were happy with it, but walked around the property out of curiosity and found the place full of character. The lobby bar reminded me of the Overlook Hotel, and I wish I'd seen it when a bartender was there, sleeves rolled up and constantly polishing a glass. We asked about rooms with a bathtub and TV, and they showed us 116. It had a huge tub and one bed. It's a smoking room, so we hadn't considered it, but it smelled like the rest of the motel, with that nostalgic air freshener mixed with cigarette smell. That was fine by us, and we could get it for a small extra charge. Delighted!

The staff serving us were kind, respectful, and worked hard. Our room was clean and welcoming, the bed was soft, and the fireplace was a lovely touch on cold, snowy winter nights.

People were loud in the hallway all night, and cigarette smell was everywhere. The pillows were dirty too. The desk service was terrible from the start, despite the website presenting it as a very nice place to stay. We chose it because it was near family. On our second morning, we asked for extra sheets and were surprised to be asked whether we wanted the wet towels on the floor changed. When we came back, the beds hadn't been made and the sheets hadn't been replaced. I strongly recommend against booking this inn. I wonder whether authorities inspect this kind of service. If not, they should, to help protect tourism in Montreal and its surroundings.

Every night, roughly 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., there was noise from the room above, like furniture being dragged around or a parade. It was ridiculous. Complaining to management got nowhere, they didn't acknowledge it or do anything. In the four days I was there, nobody took out the garbage or changed the sheets, and I had to beg for fresh towels on day three. The bathroom tiles were covered in what looked like fungus or years of dirt, the AC vent was full of dust, and a mattress spring scratched my leg. Sigh. I'll never stay here again and wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.
