KUMSHEEN Rafting Resort

The kids had plenty to do, and there’s a pool, clean communal areas, and welcoming staff who were happy to help. We’d thought Mother’s Day was ruined after driving three hours only to be turned away at a provincial park, but Kumsheen Resort turned the day around right away. What began as a rough start became a memory we’ll cherish. We’ll be back every year, at least until the kids think they’re too cool to come with us.

The tent cabins were a real highlight. You get to feel close to nature while staying warm and dry, and the staff were great too. I visited quite a few years ago and had an incredible time. I really hope I can come back and do it again.

The event itself was a blast, with good food, lots of splashing, and river guides who clearly enjoyed their work. I recently organized a graduating class trip, and the staff were exceptional from start to finish, with clear communication throughout. Everyone had a fun time.

The whole place had a welcoming, safe feel, with families getting to know each other, staff living on site, and people chatting like old friends. It gave me strong Dirty Dancing, very Kellerman’s, energy, just in a camping setting. The resort isn’t fancy, but that’s part of its charm. It had what we needed, lots of amenities, and fantastic, helpful staff. Staying in a teepee was a unique highlight, and a memorable way to experience culture and traditions connected to the Indigenous peoples of the Great Plains and Canadian Prairies. Elliot, our power rafting guide, was spectacular. He knew his stuff, kept us entertained, and made learning feel like a comedy set mixed with a nature documentary. He deserves a fan club, maybe even a cape. A few tips from someone who learned the hard way: follow the guides’ clothing advice for rafting, even if it’s 38°C and you’re sure you’ll be fine. You will get cold, shockingly cold, like your bones are shivering. Wear the earplugs on the train too. It’s loud enough to make you wonder if you’ve woken up in a jet engine. Looking back, my 74lb, 4'8" ten-year-old might have been better off waiting a year or two. He really did have fun, but he held on for dear life the whole time, exhilarated, determined, focused, and a little terrified. A wonderful mix of fun, connection, culture, and memorable moments. Highly recommend.
