Motel Restigouche

The pool was clean and heated, and the rooms were beautifully renovated with really comfortable beds. It was quiet, with a balcony facing the mountains. The exterior and reception might put you off, and the place can look closed, but they’re doing major renovations. Don’t let the appearance fool you.

The owner was very friendly, and the view from the window was beautiful. We stayed one night in a renovated room, everything new and clean. There’s also a beautiful lookout about a 15-minute walk from the motel.

It may look closed and there are only a few rooms, but they’re comfortable and quiet. The area is great, service was great, and everything was super clean. It used to be a renowned pourvoirie, a really incredible institution. I’d recommend it and would definitely come back.

The owner knows an incredible amount about salmon and trout fishing, including how logging and dumping have changed the nearby rivers. He’s even written a book about it. He can talk about logging’s effect on one river, agriculture’s effect on another, pool depths, and ice flows. It’s a great place in a great location, and I hope he brings the motel back. I heard it’s closed, which is a shame, especially since it served fly fishers from all over the world.
