Getting away from my phone for a week was the main thing I wanted, but the fishing kept us busy too. Each day after breakfast, a float plane took us to a different lake, where we tried different methods and went after different species. By the end, we’d caught Lake Trout, Inconnu, Graylings, Pike, and a Bull Trout. The setting is hard to beat. Inconnu Lodge sits beside McEvoy Lake in the Yukon and can only be reached by float plane. From my cedar-trimmed cabin, I woke each morning to the lake and thousands of spruce and lodgepole pine trees around it. The meals were a surprise for a fishing camp. We had Shrimp, Lamb Chops, BBQ Ribs, fish, great omelets, and plenty more. Everything tasted fantastic, and the presentation could hold its own against big-city restaurants. I’d only occasionally review a place, when an experience is especially good or bad. After spending a week here, I felt I had to share how impressed I was. The remote location also means the staff have to plan hard for things most of us take for granted. Food and supplies don’t arrive by regular delivery, and even lumber, windows, roofing, water heaters, and doors for repairs and projects have to come by float plane or by truck over the ice in winter. They’re currently building a new lodge of more than 4,500 square feet, so that’s a lot to bring in. Customer service clearly matters to the owners, Warren, Anita, and Shawn, as well as the experienced, accommodating guides, kitchen staff, and everyone else I met. Every day felt like a new adventure, and I loved the whole trip. I’d recommend Inconnu Lodge without hesitation if you’re considering a fishing trip.

The place is spectacular and remote, with amenities that won’t leave you disappointed. The guides and staff are friendly and dedicated, making this a rare experience.
