We got more than we expected from the romantic getaway package we booked in February, and the price was great. The room was decorated beautifully and the food was delicious. Everyone, from the front desk to the restaurant servers, was fun, friendly, and personable. They handled our questions professionally and exceeded our expectations. Best hotel experience I've had.

The front desk staff were pleasant and did help us get settled, but the booking and cost were frustrating. I was sent to a central booking service, and because I booked close to check-in, I couldn't change or cancel anything. Its rate was higher than other sites, and I was charged much more than I expected. I hope they sort it out, but it has taken time. The free breakfast buffet was decent, though most trays were empty and took a long time to refill. The orange juice tasted like water. We waited half an hour for someone to take our food order, then tried the bar and couldn't get service there either, so we left the hotel to eat. It was expensive, and although there was a pool, there was no hot tub. I don't think I'll return.

We booked Medicine Hat Lodge for the pool, hoping to take the kids on the double slides and use the hot tub during an early Christmas visit with family. They wouldn't let our two children swim because only hotel guests were allowed, even though the pool was empty at 7 p.m. and we offered to pay extra. That restriction wasn't on the website. The hot tub had been covered with painted plywood after staff said it broke and they didn't want to repair it. The surface was extremely slippery. When we explained why we'd chosen the hotel, staff were rude and just kept repeating that nobody else could use the pool. Other things added to a very disappointing stay. After online check-in, our key was practically tossed to us with directions to the second floor, but we had to find the room number on the card packet ourselves. Nobody explained the hotel or breakfast. Two staff seemed more interested in chatting with each other than helping, and one was constantly on a phone. In general, staff acted inconvenienced, including one eye-roll when we asked someone to open the shop. At breakfast, my daughter asked for ice; two staff members shook their heads and walked away without answering, although ice was being used in the trays to keep food cold. The pool area was dark at night, with bulbs missing from half the hanging lights and the ceiling lights off. The halls smelled dirty and looked worn, with stained carpet, tape holding torn sections together, and ripped wallpaper. The bed had no support and sagged in the middle where my five-year-old and I slept. The bathtub faucet was so coated in hard water it was turning green. The TV was hard to use: the listings channel only repeated “02-Channel Listings,” and the remote's channel buttons didn't work reliably. Although our family couldn't swim, several people were allowed to stay on the pool deck with open alcoholic drinks. This felt like a 0/10 stay. The old, grungy hotel turned what was meant to be a fun family night into a disappointment. We won't return, and I wouldn't recommend it. I'll spend my money elsewhere next time. It's also disappointing that Wyndham has put its name on this property; I expect much more from a Wyndham experience.

Such a lovely time and a nice place! My only gripe was the pillows. If your head is sensitive, bring your own, and pack an HDMI cord too, since there weren't any. Otherwise, we had a great time.
