Motel 6 Merritt BC

This was a good-value stop in Merritt, and I’d happily stay again while passing through. The location right off the highway was ideal for a quick overnight stay. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, everything worked as expected, and parking was easy. The property felt safe and quiet through the night. Check-in was quick and smooth, and the front desk staff were welcoming and helpful. For a budget stay, it exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend.

The food was great, which is the one positive thing I can say. I stopped in Merritt because the weather was bad, and we were too tired to look elsewhere for a place that took two dogs. After the first room had stained sheets and hair in the bed, I told the front desk and was given another room. I checked that bed too, as I always do before unloading, and saw something in the dark top left corner just as I was about to reach under the sheet. It was a BLACK WIDOW. I was inches from touching it. I turned on my flashlight and was glad I caught it. Without my usual check, we’d never have known. I sleep closest to the door, so my wife could have been bitten in the face during the night. In a small town we didn’t know, that could have been tragic. I showed the front desk a photo, though I couldn’t tell whether he understood what I was showing him. He apologized and offered another room. My wife and I sat in the car deciding what to do, traumatized, but kept telling ourselves it was only one night. We checked out and got no refund offer, no credit for a meal at the connected restaurant, nothing. Just business as usual. It’s been a month since our stay on Dec 21, and I emailed the owner, Jagjit, but got no response. After such a terrible, traumatic experience with a dirty bed and a poisonous black widow, I’d have expected them to reach out or do something. Be cautious if you stay here. Saving a few dollars could literally change your life.

The hotel was reasonably nice, clean, and basic. But there was nowhere to park when I arrived, while the band was playing in the bar under my room, so I had to use the public lot across the street. The live music went until 1:00 AM, then loud dance music carried on until 2:00 AM. It was so loud that things on my nightstand were visibly vibrating.

We stayed for a week and booked an extension, but the front desk first said the system was down and we couldn’t extend. After I called customer service, she admitted she’d cancelled our reservation because we’d had a guest over a couple of times, never overnight. With no warning, we now had to pack up a two-bedroom suite and find somewhere else. I wouldn’t recommend this place.
