Quality Inn & Suites

The location worked perfectly for us, right between Matane and Rimouski. The hotel felt very modern, and even though our room had carpet, there wasn’t any bad smell. Breakfast was the usual buffet. I was really impressed.

For a night or two, this hotel might be fine, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a longer business stay. I spent six months there, and the long-term arrangement was difficult. The owner was never around, so the lady manager handled complaints, including ones about herself. She was impatient and spoke to guests the way she spoke to her kids or employees. Once, she blocked my key card because my employer took a couple of hours to send her a certain amount of money, even though I’d already been staying there for six months. I had no problems in the village apart from this hotel, whether with my job or the community. At the hotel, though, staff often seemed short on professionalism and experience, especially when I had a legitimate request they weren’t used to hearing from an average guest. They could become rough and take it personally. A man on the night shift at reception insulted me many times when I asked a question or made a request after work, which ended at midnight. Other staff did the same during the day, on the phone and in person, particularly when I brought up an unusual but legitimate question or request. They might put young hockey players in the rooms on both sides of yours, so good luck getting some rest. For a short visit it could be okay, but I wouldn’t choose it for business.

Breakfast was plentiful and included in the price. The waffles and yogurt were especially good, and the hot options, sausages, scrambled eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns, were replenished quickly. The pool was warm and relaxing, and having the spa, hot tub, and sauna was a lovely surprise. We also liked relaxing in the lobby and were curious about the hydroponic herb garden by the entrance. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable, though it felt a little bare and we missed having lamps by the beds. The air conditioner was loud, but it covered other sounds and we slept well. Check-in was friendly, and staff were helpful with the laundry after four days of camping. Laundry soap was available at the front desk for $2, which was handy. We had a great stay at Quality Inn & Suites Mont-Joli and would stay again.

Really lovely place. The only problem was the in-room air conditioner, which was so loud we had to keep it off overnight. Luckily, it was a cool night.
