The location is chef’s kiss. Step outside and there’s already so much within walking distance. The common areas are trés cute, the staff are friendly, and the pancakes were good. It felt like a great, safe, affordable place to stay, even though the beds were kind of hard. One note about the specific triple room with a private bathroom: the shower doesn’t have its own private room. You step straight out into the room shown, so there’s no privacy from your suite mate. That could be a dealbreaker for some, though I think they have other room options with a different setup.

The cozy common areas felt homey, and breakfast was a delight. The staff and guests were friendly, and my private room with shared bathroom was clean and orderly. It had a sink, and I could adjust the heat. Towels were provided, but bring or buy your own soap and toiletries. I’d also suggest shower shoes. The location was great, about a 10-minute walk to the nearest metro, and a bus into downtown stops right outside. Like most hostels, it was noisy at all hours, so bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. I couldn’t get the WiFi to work at all, so if internet matters to you, you may want to stay elsewhere. For budget travel, I can’t recommend it enough.

I stayed in a six-person shared room and had no problems. The staff were so welcoming and explained the community expectations and instructions clearly. Shoutout to Carl, Joanie, and Carl's little pancake helper 🥞🧑🏾🦱! I also really appreciated how they encouraged me to practice my French. Quite a contrast to my visit to Paris, haha! I’d recommend this place to anybody. P.S. If you’re leaving a bad review because you had to wash your own dishes, really? 😂

Across stays in July ’25 and Dec ’25, I’ve spent almost two weeks at Auberge du Plateau, and it’s still my first choice whenever my company isn’t paying for that part of a trip. I’ve consistently felt safe, welcome, and at home. Carl, Caroline, Héloïse, Aude, and Jimmy are wonderful. The rooms and property are well maintained, and Jimmy is often fixing things before they become a problem. Carl leads the team with real pride in the community. The breakfast beats a hotel continental spread, the shared spaces are thoughtfully laid out, and I’ve met all kinds of interesting people with stories that made for memorable connections. In summer, the Terrasse is phenomenal. It’s a great place to make friends, co-work, unwind, and enjoy Montréal while getting solid amenities for the price. A few practical things: towels are small, and basic toiletries aren’t provided. Larger towels and toiletries for purchase would be welcome. Bring your own padlock, since the ones sold onsite aren’t very easy to use. I’d choose a bottom bunk on the second floor or toward the back, as those are generally more comfortable than top bunks or some rooms on the third floor or facing the front. If body odor is something you’re sensitive to, some guests may be newcomers adjusting to life in Canada; a private room or another booking choice might suit you better. Thanks again for everything. Auberge du Plateau is full of great people, and I highly recommend it. See you soon!

We loved our stay here. It felt like home, with a lovely atmosphere, welcoming hosts, and a wonderful location. Merci Carl and crew! As two young women, we felt very safe and supported. The shared kitchen and fridge were fantastic, and breakfast was generous too. So cute. We’ll be back!
