Best Western Plus Hotel Montreal

I didn’t expect such a quiet, pleasant hotel given the location, and the location itself was excellent. The rooms were clean, modern, and comfortable, and the service was great. There’s valet parking and a couple of free coffee machines in the lobby. The restaurant was excellent too. I’d definitely stay again.

We booked this hotel after problems with our original accommodation, and I’m very glad we did. Vanessa and Julie at the front desk were understanding and incredibly helpful, even letting us check in early. They made a stressful situation much easier. The location was ideal for exploring the city and close to the gay village. We were on vacation in Canada and were thoroughly impressed. The rooms were spotless, nicely presented, and had everything we needed. The reception area was a lovely touch, with complimentary coffee and a bowl of chocolates for guests. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it.

Finding parking was difficult, and there was an extra fee because I booked through Expedia. Getting into the lot was confusing too, since I had to approach it from another road. That was disappointing. The receptionist hadn’t asked whether I wanted a room with a tub or a shower, although the booking said I could choose. That lack of communication summed up the stay. I’d compared several hotels in the same price range, some with better benefits, but picked this one because of its big-brand reputation and because I didn’t know the area. It didn’t work out. The hotel was old and poorly maintained. My room was tiny, smelled unpleasant, and had carpet that looked barely cleaned. The coffee maker was dirty, and the staff weren’t friendly or helpful. I stayed for just one night, about ten hours. The drive to Montreal itself was smooth and pleasant. I was excited when I arrived. There hadn’t been snow back in Ontario, so stepping into Montreal’s snowy, freezing midnight Christmas scene felt magical. Once that first thrill wore off, the problems set in.

After checking out and driving home, my phone alerted me that a tracker was nearby. I pulled over and called the police, who found a smart tag tracking device in the front engine bay of my vehicle. I spoke with Manager Maya. She confirmed that cars are valeted to one of two garages under and next door to the hotel, with access limited to Best Western employees. She denied that valet employees would have placed the tracker, then said cars sometimes sit on the street and maybe someone there had put it in the vehicle. Either way, I don’t trust the valet service. The location doesn’t feel safe, and if cars are left on the street they’re exposed to anything. Maya didn’t offer a refund and kept defending her valet employees, despite my being told cars were kept in a secure garage below. The stay itself was OK, but the staff weren’t very welcoming and didn’t help with local recommendations. We won’t return. Don’t park valet here.
