François-Denis Apartments

The main drawback was getting up to the room: I hauled a large suitcase up two winding flights of stairs, which fit the building’s age. I don’t think it’s ADA accessible. Once inside, though, the little kitchen had everything we needed for five days, and the clean boutique room was comfortable. We didn’t need any service during our stay. The balcony outside our room was a nice place to sit after a busy day, and the location made it easy to walk everywhere. There were so many places to eat that choosing was hard. We worried street noise might affect sleep, but the windows and curtains blocked it well. The bed felt firm but soft, and we slept well after long days out. We’d stay again.

I only got to stay one night, but I’d like to come back for longer. The location is excellent, right in the middle of a great area, and self check-in was easy. Inside, the place felt rustic but was thoroughly clean and finished, with newer appliances and fixtures. The kitchen had everything, including a dishwasher. I also found the artwork intriguing and could see a lot of thought had gone into the decor. Highly recommend.

The room was incredibly small, and you could get a much bigger hotel room for the same price or less. The bathroom is so cramped you can brush your teeth at the sink while sitting on the toilet. The location is great, though, and the staff did a great job getting the room ready on very short notice.

I booked room #10 at the back on the 3rd floor after emailing to ask about noise, and it was wonderfully quiet. The room had a full kitchen with a Keurig, cold Brita water in the fridge, a comfortable bed, air conditioning, and a good shower with hot water and strong pressure. The neighborhood reminded me of the East Village in NYC, with restaurants, a market, coffee shops, the Mont-Royal Metro station, and a large bookstore all close enough to walk to. Check-in and parking instructions were clear. The spiral stairs to the back rooms are tight and a bit hard to navigate, so with lots of luggage you might prefer the ground floor or a room in front. I’d consider François-Denis again if I’m back in this area.
