Le Sieur de Joliette

The room was a bit small for two, but for a short visit we were happy with it. It was clean, had a nice vibe, and the location is close to downtown and bus service. It could work well for one person at the price. The owner was responsive and available throughout our stay, and you can contact him about discounts.

The bedrooms felt like hotel rooms, clean and spacious, and the owner was accommodating. The place was great overall, though it’s really a unit in a residential area with a hotel setup on the lower floor, rather than the usual three-star hotel. Parking is on the side street. We worried there wouldn’t be a spot when we got back at night, but Marc made it work. It’s a good fit if you’re not too picky and don’t mind leaving your car on the street.

The room and ensuite were warm, cozy, and nicely lit, and there was even a bathrobe in the wardrobe, a thoughtful touch though there were two of us. Marc helped us find parking and checked us in. The kitchenette facilities were good, the price affordable, and the service was good overall. It’s near the Métro, and walking around the neighborhood is pleasant if you don’t mind the distance. We were happy with the stay and would return. Finding the place was harder than it should have been. It’s on a residential street, not well signed at night, and the building plaque and address were hidden behind the tree in autumn. The bedroom and shared floors could use a cleaning, and we found a bug in our room. The TV looked very analogue, was attached to an outdated cable box, and its remote didn’t work well.

I’m writing from Boston, and after five stays in Montreal this was my favorite. The neighborhood and living room felt a little sketchy, but it worked well for me as a budget traveler who likes a quiet place to read and relax near the subway. If you have poor eyesight like I do, watch for the couple of small steps in unexpected spots. I found it pleasant and comfortable, and hope to come back.
