Our balcony suite was lovely and matched what we expected, and check-in went smoothly. The problem was getting to use the dining and rooftop amenities we had booked this place for. We arrived late hoping to unwind with dinner and cocktails on the rooftop, but were told hotel guests had no priority and needed reservations even for a drink at the bar. We also couldn't take drinks back to our room. The front desk said the restaurants operated separately and that reservations had to be made through OpenTable. It was a Canadian holiday weekend, so everything was already full. After spending nearly $2,000 for three nights at a property promoted as one of Montreal’s top hotels, it was extremely disappointing to find its own amenities effectively unavailable. There was no real effort to accommodate us, and the only option left was limited, overpriced room service, far from what we’d anticipated. We’d just spent the first part of our trip at the Fairmont in Quebec City, where the experience was exceptional, so we had hoped for something similar in Montreal. I regret not choosing a more guest-focused brand like Fairmont, or even a traditional chain where guests’ access to amenities is prioritized. I’m sharing this so future visitors know a room reservation here doesn’t necessarily mean access to the dining and rooftop experiences associated with the property.

We stayed four days and felt right at home. The staff were warm, attentive, always smiling, and went the extra mile to meet our needs. The location is right in the heart of Old Montreal, across from the Notre Dame Cathedral, with lots of sights within walking distance. The rooms were very clean, the beds comfortable, and the linens up to the standard of a five-star hotel. There’s a gym with new equipment and a spa, and you’re greeted by the smell of sandalwood when you walk in. We loved 701 Brasserie on the main level, with its Parisienne feel and excellent food at breakfast and dinner. We didn’t eat elsewhere because it was hard to beat. The Japanese cuisine restaurant was great too. If you’re visiting Montreal and want comfort, quality, and a memorable stay, Place Des Armes is probably your best option.

We were moved to Hotel Place D’Armes because Hotel Nelligan was temporarily closed for renovations on our dates. Gabriel, the Director of Rooms at Nelligan, made sure we were welcomed and looked after at the sister property, and the relocation was handled very professionally. At Place D’Armes, Alejandra, the Director of Rooms, greeted us warmly and left a thoughtful surprise in our room. Our suite had also been upgraded. It was spacious, well appointed, had great amenities, and a very comfortable bed. The staff throughout were attentive and welcoming, and the location is ideal for exploring Old Montreal. We were there for the final night of our vacation, and our only complaint is that we wish we’d spent more of the trip here. We couldn’t have asked for a better visit and are already looking forward to coming back. Do yourself a favour and stay here!

The morning we were meant to leave, our Honda wouldn’t move because of a transmission problem. I’d driven it five hours just days earlier with no issues, so it was a shock. Alejandra took charge and made a stressful situation in a foreign country much easier. She offered another night on the hotel, a car to get us home, breakfast, and extra time in the city while she handled things. Over the next few hours and many calls, she arranged a tow truck and covered the cost, then got the car to H&I Auto Mecanique. I was back on the road and heading home within hours. Huge thanks to Alejandra, or Ale, for her persistence and dedication, and to the whole staff. Even before that, the hotel had impressed us. The location, rooms, amenities, and establishment were already well worth the price. When the A/C in our Junior Suite didn’t work properly on the second night, they immediately offered an upgrade to the Executive Suite, which we politely declined so housekeeping wouldn’t have extra work. Manager Alejandra also waived our valet charges for the inconvenience. That was already generous, and then she went far beyond what we expected.

We got home only a few days ago and already miss you! The place is beautiful, but it was really the staff who made our five-night stay so enjoyable. The restaurant was one of our favorite spots in the city. Dinner, brunch, and a late-night stop for chartrutrie boards were all excellent, and the staff we met were fabulous. We’re already excited to return, this time in summer.
