Honeyrose Hotel finally felt like a Montreal hotel that matched the city's personality. As an ex-Montrealer who comes back often, I've tried self-check-in places, big chains, and independent boutiques, and even after researching, none quite seemed to fit this stylish city. The building looks austere and plain from outside, but once you go through the revolving doors, you see the turquoise gift shop and step into a roaring 20s atmosphere. It feels like Great Gatsby meets the heyday of downtown Montreal glamour. The location is ideal, in the cultural center, quartier des spectacles, beside a subway station and within walking distance of downtown, old Montreal, and Chinatown. I used the indoor pool, sauna, and hot tub spa each morning. They're all on the 15th floor, which is entirely glassed in, along with the gym. There's also a yoga and barre ballet room with classes. I had breakfast every morning at The Commodore, the on-site restaurant, and the staff were great. The portions were generous and the breakfast delicious. I'll come back in warmer months to try the second on-site restaurant, the outdoor patio. The quality of the build is matched by the people working there. Every detail feels top-notch, from the rotary phone stations and all-brass elevators to the plush lounge seating and winding staircase. Rooms are spacious and thoughtfully laid out, with hooks, benches, closet space, a loveseat, and a large desk. The shower enclosure has especially striking dusty pink etching. I liked being able to set the room temperature myself; I prefer sleeping cool, and in most hotels I've stayed at I couldn't get below 21˚c. The lights are on separate electronic circuits, controlled from the tablet beside the bed, so you can switch just the ones you need. One whole wall has floor-to-ceiling windows, velvet black-out curtains, and a spectacular view of downtown Montreal.
I've never felt so embarrassed or unwelcome at a hotel, and I won't return or recommend it to a friend or colleague. The restaurant staff were especially rude. When the waitress spilled some food on the table, she saw it but didn't apologize or acknowledge it, and kept speaking rudely when we politely asked about the menu. The rest of the staff weren't welcoming either. A bartender also rudely chased us off the stairs while my friend was taking a photo of me. Those stairs were one of the reasons I booked the hotel. His tone and behavior were humiliating and unprofessional. There was a note by the cashew nuts, small Pringles, gummies, and mini cookies saying, “Feel free to indulge in our selection.” We took that to mean the snacks were complimentary. After checkout, I was charged $89.70. I asked the manager for an itemized breakdown with each item's quantity and price, but never got a complete list. Before leaving, I'd only been told the charge would be $16.70, so the final amount is concerning. The $250 security deposit from check-in also hasn't been refunded. This was one of the worst, most unpleasant stays I've had, and I regret booking it.
The rooms were clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged, and the hotel's warm boutique feel made me want to look around. Its style is modern and upscale but still inviting, with a lot of care put into the design, from the lobby and guest rooms to the places to relax or get a drink. I had a 10/10 stay at HONEYROSE Hotel in Montreal. Great service and atmosphere, with a vibe that captures the best of the city. I'd recommend it and can't wait to return.
We had a perfect stay, from the welcoming art deco entrance to the spacious, tastefully designed rooms. Even arriving later than expected at night, we got efficient help from the friendly staff at check-in. The beds were comfortable, and I liked that they provided robes and towels specifically for the Pool/Jacuzzi area. There was also a black face towel in the bathroom for ladies to remove their make up, a small, effective way to cut down on cotton pads and other waste. Some guests have mentioned the glass shower rooms, but a good part of the glass is opaque, so it preserves privacy whoever you're sharing the room with. After a snowy day outside, the heated Jacuzzi and indoor pool were much appreciated. The gym was spacious and well equipped too. There's an on-site restaurant for meals, plus a café corner for a quick breakfast. I'll stay at Honeyrose hotel again when I return to Montreal.
We enjoyed the spacious, comfortable room and the hotel's downtown location, within walking distance of Place des Arts and Eaton Centre. The pool and sauna are beautiful and have a lovely city view. There's a well-equipped gym and a “yoga” room, but I couldn't figure out how to get in or join the class that was running. I wish staff had explained how it worked. We ate twice at the French restaurant and café in the hotel. The first meal was good, the second not so much: the food was very salty and the coffee cold. Room service hours were also rather short. Besides those things, it was a great stay, and I'd recommend it.
