Travelodge Hotel by Wyndham Montreal Airport

The front desk staff were wonderful, helpful, courteous, and trying to get things done. The room itself was fine, and the price was fine too. But there were buckets and trash cans catching leaks in the hallways, and the restaurant was out of business. After 16 days in Europe, we got back on a cold, windy, rainy night and waited almost 25 minutes for the shuttle. On our second call, we were told it would be ten more minutes. By 40 minutes, we called a third time as the van appeared. If you’re using this place for car parking, I’d choose somewhere else.

The room had a moldy smell, a very old CRT TV that barely worked, a dead remote, and several lamps that didn’t work either. The window frames were rotten, and we found an airline boarding pass from seven months earlier, which made me wonder how often the rooms get cleaned. On arrival, many parking spots were taken by cars with wheel clamps. Check-in staff seemed uninterested and took ages to find the reservation. There were also homeless people in the front lobby asking for spare change. Calling this place run down is an understatement. Avoid it like the plague.

The staff had a don’t-care attitude, and the room was dusty enough to keep me sneezing. I could hear every conversation, including the people next door starting at 6:30 AM, which woke me up. The old, dirty, dark green rugs and patchwork everywhere didn’t help. For what I paid for a double room, it wasn’t worth it. I planned to stay two nights, but I’m checking out and finding somewhere cleaner, quieter, more comfortable, and where I can get a good night’s sleep.

The room was spacious and, above all, clean. It had free Wi-Fi, a coffee maker, fridge, microwave, and A/C. During my four-day stay, it was cleaned each day, with the bed made and towels replaced. Staff I saw in the corridor tending to other rooms always asked if there was anything they could do to help. I arrived very late, at 2 AM, and a nice concierge was ready to help me check in. The entrance was beautiful, and I was impressed as soon as I walked in. I travel often for work and have stayed at plenty of different hotels, but the service and condition of the accommodation put this one at the top of my list. I’m sure to stay here again when I return to Montreal.
