We paid a reasonable price for a great stay. The room was spacious, with a double bed and kitchenette, and it was clean and up to modern standards. It's right by the highway. The people at the front desk were very accommodating. Thanks for a great stay, I'll be back.

Our dog seemed happy there too, and we found the bed very comfortable. The room was spotless and newly updated. It's just off highway 1, which is a great location. I'd recommend the Thriftlodge if you just need a good night's sleep.

We were so disappointed with this hotel that we left at dawn, tired and unable to rest. The room was filthy, smelled bad, had insects, exposed pipes sticking out of the ceiling in the bathtub, and a door that wouldn't close. The price felt far too high for the conditions and service. The problems started before we even arrived. The website said the hotel was pet friendly, and we have a cat, so I called ahead to ask about bringing him. The employee spoke poor English and told me yes about ten times. I also asked whether we could park a car with a trailer, and was told that was fine. After I'd booked a non-cancellable room, another employee called to say they weren't pet friendly and that I had to cancel. I had called ahead precisely because I couldn't cancel. Staff said I should have specified that they had only ONE pet friendly room, but that information wasn't on the website, and the first employee never mentioned it. After a very unpleasant conversation, I was told they'd look for another room and call in two days. They never called, even after a month, and didn't answer my calls. We had to leave our cat behind and travel without him. We arrived at exactly 11 at night, when reception was supposed to be open, but the doors were locked and nobody answered the phone. After 20 minutes of trying to get through, a staff member came out of a room, apparently asleep. During check-in he said we couldn't be there with the trailer, despite my having asked about it in advance. He eventually let me park the car and trailer on the grass behind the hotel. Staff need proper information before answering calls. If someone had answered my questions correctly the first time, we wouldn't have booked this horrible hotel.

We left tired, dirty, and grumpy. The shower was unusable because only hot water came out, and the sink was hot too. With the water situation in question, we skipped brushing our teeth. It was stinking hot when we arrived: the heat pump was set to 86 degrees, and after we turned it off and cooled the room down, the baseboard heater ran all night without us realizing. There didn't seem to be a thermostat. There were plenty of odd things we might have put down to the motel experience, including some harmless bugs in the room, maybe shield bugs. The lack of free breakfast is a minor quibble, but you should know there wasn't any. We wish them the best, but a lot needs addressing.
