Ramada Nanaimo

The laundry dryer needs to be switched off by hand. I waited almost an hour before noticing it was still running. The washer and dryer each cost $4, paid in loonies. We stayed over the Family Day long weekend, and for the price this was a convenient, budget-friendly place about 20 minutes from Duke Point, right on the main road and easy to find. Our economy room was on the ground floor facing the road, as expected. It was roomy, with a very clean bed, a neat bathroom, and all the essentials. Housekeeping was good. We weren't expecting luxury from a three-star hotel, and it delivered a clean, practical, comfortable stay. The young woman with glasses at reception was calm, friendly, and helpful. She took her time explaining check-in and the details. The staff were welcoming, smiling, and helpful throughout. Breakfast was included with a good selection, and the restaurant staff member was very friendly and kept replenishing the buffet so it stayed fresh. A satisfying stay for what we paid. If you need a clean, no-frills hotel near Duke Point with friendly service and breakfast included, it's a solid choice.

The two women at the front desk treated our team disgracefully, though the gentleman was kind. Our kids were told they couldn't sit in the breakfast dining area because it was supposedly for regular people. They also objected to the kids sitting quietly in the lobby, even when they were whispering. We were respectful and quiet, but the staff were absolutely rude to us. They said the owners would no longer let teams stay there. I believe Nanaimo needs travel ball teams. This was the worst hotel experience we've had. I highly recommend not staying here. Ridiculous.

The staff were kind, friendly, and very helpful. The rooms are older but mostly clean, so bring slippers. From the roof, past the moss, you can see the bay. The landscaping is the pits, though maybe it'll look nicer in summer. The outside is a runner.

Food stains were on the carpet, and marijuana smell came through the vents all night. There was open drug use outside and in the rooms. Housekeeping started knocking at 9 a.m. and disturbed our rest. When I raised all this with the owner, he rudely dismissed it and blamed us for not reporting things before checkout. It's been 10 days and he still hasn't released the pre-auth. Sketchy hotel, sketchy owner, sketchy area. Avoid this place at all cost.
