Quality Inn

The heater kept making very loud industrial noises throughout the night, waking my partner and me and making it impossible to sleep. At checkout, when my partner reported what had happened overnight, the hotel said the excessive noise had been a problem with the heaters for a while. They didn't offer a discount or compensation. The bathroom had black mold from water constantly overflowing from the shower, and there was only one bath towel for two people. Our ground level windows looked straight onto the street and parking lot, and the black out curtains meant we couldn't let in outside light and still have privacy.

I needed to change my date after booking through hotels.com, but couldn't get a human through their AI system or make the change online. I called the hotel, and Kulweep sorted it out kindly and effortlessly in seconds. I miss the good old days, three years ago, when it was this easy to speak with a person!

The room was clean, with a very comfy bed and pillows, and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The shower base needed a good scrub, and it would have been nice to have drinking glasses instead of just paper cups. Getting to the hotel from the ferry was easy, but outside parking is limited to loading zones. The underground parking was limited too, and my truck wouldn't fit. There's a restaurant, though it closes at 3:00 pm.

The rooms are spacious, and the hotel feels new and very clean. Staff at the front desk were good, though some amenities are missing. Parking is the biggest issue: there are only about 20 spots, and the underground garage entrance is very steep. The card reader is awkwardly close to the wall, and you'll probably end up parking on the street. With Nanaimo's large homeless problem, that doesn't feel very secure. Expanding the garage seems unlikely, but they could look into renting extra spaces from the nearby public lot.
