Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel

We checked in online and expected to have dinner in the hotel lobby. Instead, the open lobby had a section roped off for a piano performance, and hotel guests were being charged $35 per person just to sit and dine there. The free option was a table in the back, where we could still clearly hear the music from the 7th floor. The extra charge didn’t add anything we weren’t already getting for free. No one disclosed this policy when we booked or checked in, which is a big omission when you’re paying $400 for an airport hotel room. A lobby is shared guest space, not a concert hall or private event. I stay at Marriott properties about 40 nights a year and am a Gold member. I’ve never been charged a cover fee to sit and eat in a hotel lobby. This will absolutely affect whether I book here in the future. Management should remove the charge for hotel guests or at least clearly disclose it when people reserve. The lobby should welcome the guests paying to stay there, not be another way to make money at their expense.

For most of our many trips to Edmonton for healthcare over the past four years, my husband and I have stayed at the Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel. The staff have always been professional, friendly and accommodating, even with last-minute changes and requests. We’ve got to know quite a few of them, and wanted to thank the whole team for the consistently welcoming, exemplary service.

I don’t often rave about hotels, but this one deserves it. We forgot some medication in the room fridge while rushing to catch our morning flight. The hotel called to say it had been safely put in the office fridge until we returned. Gigi also went out of her way to make my wife feel special during our stay. I’d forgotten to mention her birthday when I booked, but Gigi arranged complimentary drinks and a dessert waiting in our room at the end of the evening. We really appreciated the fantastic service.

I booked this just to be somewhere convenient before my flight, and it turned out to be much more. Walking straight into the hotel was fun, the food was superb and service was quick. My room was big and immaculate. It was a runway room, and watching the planes was more fun than I expected. The two windows kept it very quiet, even during takeoff. I’d definitely stay again.
