Western Budget Motel 1

I’ve been stopping at this motel for four years without a problem, so I’m very disappointed to be writing this. The motel and staff themselves had always impressed me. This time, though, I had a disturbing experience involving a long-stay tenant, and I’m still waiting for the motel to properly review what happened. After a 20-hour drive, I was cleaning and organizing my car while waiting for my room on April 4th, 2026. A man watched and heckled me from his window. I ignored him because I don’t usually engage with a stranger speaking to me inappropriately. After checking in, unloading things, and showering, I went to Walmart for a few items. There was a note on my car from the same heckler asking me to dinner, with his name and phone number, and complimenting the job I’d done cleaning my car. The more I thought about it, the creepier and more inappropriate it felt that he’d watched me for 20-30 minutes. I threw the note away and carried on with my errands. I picked things up, had coffee with a friend, and returned to the motel within an hour and 45 minutes. I parked closer to a camera, hoping nothing else would happen and that the man might be gone. I walked around to the passenger side past the trunk to get my purchases and didn’t notice anything different on the car. My friend had a dashcam, and it showed no sign of anyone near our vehicles in the Walmart lot. At about 8 a.m. the next morning, I went to the trunk for water bottles and saw that my car had been keyed along the trunk door and passenger-side door panels. I know the marks weren’t there when I left for Walmart or when I got back to the motel. They were distinct against the dirt on my car, and I’d have noticed them in daylight between 17:00 and 18:00. If this has happened to anyone else, I’m sure they could connect the dots. Fellow solo travelers should be cautious around this motel. They only warned the tenant, and I had to be moved to another hotel. I’m still waiting for them to go through the 13 hours of footage to confirm whether the person who damaged my vehicle was the man staying there. Management told police they found nothing in the videos, which doesn’t sit right with me. They only reviewed two hours of video out of the 13 hours of footage.

My brother and his girlfriend stayed here while visiting, and the room was disgusting. When they went to cook, they found a dead MOUSE in the oven, quite reasonably upsetting them. Staff swore at them and were rude, then apparently came up with excuses to deduct $400.00 from their credit card. Terrible service and management. Those two young, hard-working people are now out $400. It’s ridiculous how some people do business. Don’t waste your money here. The place felt completely unprofessional. 0 stars.

We had a horrible stay and wouldn’t recommend this place. After a miscommunication they tried to kick us out. We’d turned on the oven to cook food and found a dead mouse inside, and the hotel smelled like burning flesh afterward. They only moved us four doors down and did nothing else about it. When my girlfriend tried to get reimbursed, staff cussed her out and were completely unprofessional. They didn’t reimburse us, and now they’re keeping a $400 deposit because we smoked a bit of weed outside. I understand now that smoking isn’t allowed anywhere on the property, but we thought outside was okay since it’s legal in Canada. I’d give negative stars if I could.

The manager was really accommodating when my friends couldn’t find a hotel, and they were able to stay with me. I got to check in early for the weekend, and both my room and the common areas were clean and comfortable. The concert weekend had filled up all the other places, so I was very satisfied here. Thanks so much, I’ll stay again and again.
