The breakfast Shirley made was spectacular, way beyond what I expected, and I felt spoiled. She’s so kind and clearly loves her B and B, always making an effort to keep guests comfortable and happy. The room was bright, clean, and cozy, and I felt at home. The ocean is close enough for a lovely walk. It was such a welcoming, beautiful place to come back to, and I felt completely relaxed. Thanks, Shirley, for sharing your home. I hope to see you again.

The owner was very helpful, and breakfast was hot and tasty. Our downstairs king room had a kitchen and felt quiet, private, and clean. There’s no air conditioning, but the fan the owner set up worked perfectly. The tile floors were also a plus for anyone with pet allergies staying somewhere that allows pets. There were plenty of brochures about nearby attractions.

In September 2022, I was locked out of the suite for no reason, and had to involve the police to get access to my belongings. It was a dreadful ordeal. I found temporary lodging thanks to excellent references, but I’m writing this to warn other potential renters about the unstable situation here. I rented at the B&B on Amity Drive in North Saanich for two years during COVOID. The landlady’s behavior had become rather uncharacteristic over the last six months. With so few rentals available, this suite might be tempting, but I hope sharing my personal experience saves someone else grief.

Only three simple things to say: it costs too much for what you get, the host’s attitude is horrible, and don’t count on breakfast. I’d never come back.

The breakfast was a real surprise. It was generous and very good: quiche, juice, croissant, ham, fruit compote, and coffee or tea. Our hostess clearly put care into the food and presentation, and her own home was clean and nicely decorated. She was vibrant, outgoing, attractive, and well put together. Other guests at breakfast were happy with their stays too, including a couple who loved suite 1. They’d left another place because it was dirty and unsatisfactory. Maybe suite # 3 was the forgotten stepchild, since I’ve heard others had a much better experience in another room or suite. We couldn’t wait to leave our suite # 3. There was a musty smell as soon as we entered, and the dated, mismatched furniture made the rooms unattractive. The bedroom didn’t have enough furniture, and the sheets and towels were ancient, rough, pilled, and mismatched. It was dusty, or at least looked and felt that way. I had to look under furniture for something I’d dropped, and my friends wore socks because they thought the floor was dusty. The linens and worn furnishings made us not want to touch much. At a low price, like a two-star hostel, I might have accepted it, but this place was pricey. The suite door didn’t even lock. There was a rollaway twin bed, two thin comforters, and two pillows in the closet. We weren’t sure the linens were clean, and they didn’t smell fresh. They were old and rough too. I was glad I brought my own pillow. Anyone not using the rollaway would have had to sleep on the pullout sofa. One look at that ancient 80s piece told us it would be a rough night. I didn’t even check for sheets, since sofa beds I’ve used before weren’t comfortable. We opened a window for fresh air. It was cool, and there were no extra blankets, so it was touch and go whether we had enough. Outside, though, she has a lovely gazebo with new furnishings that looked like a great place to relax. That made me wonder whether suite # 3 could be improved with little cost and a good return for the effort. It seems she had money to invest in the property.
