Best Western Plus Durham Hotel & Conference Centre

The noise was hard to ignore. I could hear conversations and snoring from neighboring rooms, and hallway voices came through as clearly as if our door were open. The heater didn't work either, though we were too tired to ask about it, and luckily I'd packed warm pajamas. Our room was on the first floor, but we had to walk down a level to reach it, and it felt like a dingy basement. It smelled odd as soon as I opened the door and had the feel of a cheap, old roadside motel. The laminate floor looked unclean. We had just come in from the snow and removed our shoes by the door, so we hadn't tracked dirt through the room, yet debris stuck to my feet when I took off my socks. The bathroom was tiny and dated, with the door opening right in front of the toilet. The tub's marks looked like dried blood at first, but were rust on closer inspection, and the slow drain left me standing in pooled water while I showered. The photos show a bright, modern lobby and sitting area, but the real spaces were cramped, small, and old. What we saw online didn't match the hotel. I don't know when the photos were taken or where the glowing reviews came from, but our stay was nothing like the advertising suggested. Between the misleading photos, worn and unclean room, noise, and basic amenities that didn't work, this was well below expectations and not worth the price. I usually let things go, but felt I had to share what happened. I wish I'd taken photos, though I was too overwhelmed at the time. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

We arrived late at night and the front desk staff welcomed us and got us settled in clean rooms. The hotel is right by the highway, which was convenient, and it was surprisingly quiet despite being so close. Our beds were comfortable too. Breakfast was included and had a nice range of options. The manager or owner came by to ask how our stay was going. He seemed genuinely interested in whether we were satisfied and was pleasant to talk with. A big shout-out to Nikki! The staff were so polite and courteous, and the service was the best I've had. The room was very comfortable, and the amenities were top-notch. I always look forward to having a fun time here.

Prabal was kind and efficient at reception when I checked in late on Friday, and my spacious room had everything I needed to be comfortable. Breakfast was what I expected, with the nice bonus of a latte option. I was pleasantly surprised by the stay and will definitely return.
