Poets Cove Resort & Spa

The food was delicious and the setting was beautiful, but I didn't enjoy my stay. My room faced direct sunlight and got very hot. There was no air conditioning, and even leaving both the patio door and the hallway door open the whole time didn't help. The staff didn't seem welcoming.

The location is stunning and wonderfully quiet, and everyone on staff we dealt with was pleasant, helpful, and quick. We visited in late November, when many of the cottages seemed unoccupied. Our dinner at Aurora was top notch, from the meal and service to being greeted by the chef. The Executive cottage had plenty of room for five, comfortable beds, and looked quite clean at first glance. The bathrooms were otherwise spotless, though the master shower had dirt in the corners and my wife found a hearing aid on the floor, so I can't imagine it had been cleaned before we arrived. Maybe that was a one-off. There were plenty of small maintenance issues. The outside of most cottages had algae, and fir needles covered the path, porch, and doormats. The windows were dirty, and the hot tub water looked unclean, with needles and debris in it. There was also what looked like a coffee spill on the dining room wall. The French doors from the master bedroom and dining room were very hard to open, and one wouldn't lock. The bathroom doorknob was nearly loose, the toaster had lost a handle, and the kitchen knives were worse than butter knives. The desk lamp had no bulb, and the TV remote was taped together with navigation buttons that didn't work. We ran short on basics, too. On the first day we had to ask for toilet paper, since there was only one spare and two tiny used rolls. There were only a few paper towel sheets, no dishcloths or tea towels, and just one small puck of soap for five people. One bathroom's conditioner dispenser was empty. We called and left a message with the front desk about conditioner, but never received any. The staff did bring dishcloths and tea towels after we called. Once the trash bag in the bin was used, there were no spares. We had a 30 percent discount, but at $500 a night I expected more. Having enough supplies for our three days alone would have made a big difference. I'm not sure whether management or ownership is responsible, but with some care this could easily be an incredible place. Thanks to the staff we met and the wonderful restaurant team, whose help we really appreciated. I hope things improve soon, because we'd like to return once these issues are addressed.

The ocean view from our lovely hotel room made for a great weekend, and the staff were friendly. We got the room through the Black Friday deal, so the price was reasonable. The resort could use a bit of TLC, but I had a great experience.

Christina and Anthony were amazing. We had a small issue in our room, and Anthony was at the door in under two minutes. Thanks, Anthony, you rock! We had a lovely weekend at a hotel that felt just right. The restaurant was nice too, and the clam chowder at dinner was to die for.
