Shangri-La Oceanfront B&B

The oceanfront view was the highlight, with something about it changing throughout the day. After our outings, we could relax on the deck listening to the ocean or settle on the couch with classical music from the owners' collection. It left us feeling peaceful. My wife and I loved our four days at Shangri-La B&B. The room was clean, the queen bed very comfortable, and the owner couple were kind and friendly. They even gave us an island exploring day trip. We'll definitely be back, and I'd recommend it to everyone.

We spent a week in a wonderfully quiet spot, far from the crowds, and came away feeling recharged. The hosts, Susan and Toby, were warm, discreet, pleasant, and helpful. Staying with them felt like being at home among friends. There's a spacious shared area with a fully equipped kitchen, living room, and entertainment space for when you want something beyond nature's sounds. The views are marvelous. From an ocean view room, you can take in the panorama from Oak Bluff viewpoint across Swanson Channel toward Vancouver Island, right from your patio. Mountain view rooms look toward Bedwell Harbour Marina and South Pender Island, which are lovely too. All guests can also use the shared ocean view area at any time, and sunset there is especially spectacular for photos. It's so quiet that crickets are about the only thing to hear, whether you're sleeping or relaxing in a chair under the stars. Highly recommended. At the last minute, my parents, husband, and I decided to spend New Year's on Pender Island. We chose the Shangri La and it worked out really well. Every room had its own Jacuzzi, which we made full use of, plus a king sized bed and amazing views. Breakfast was prompt and delicious. I'd definitely recommend this B & B.

The view alone deserves at least four stars, especially at sunset and under the stars, and you can even feed deer on the patio. The hostess was very kind, and although the rooms aren't very big, they're nicely decorated. There are two grills on the patio, but since it faces south, trying to cook in the sun is a nightmare. With no air conditioning in the house, this time of year it turns into a steamer, nearly an oven. I'd give it five stars if it had air conditioning, and I hope the owner installs it soon. If you're going around this time, bring a fan and, if you can, an ice pack. Bring mosquito repellent too, and an ice tray, since there's only one. It may be better to book all three rooms together with friends or relatives.
