Tiki Shores Inn & Suites

We were staying here long-term over the winter, with a three-month reservation planned. The arrangements got mixed up and the room was double-booked, so our family of four was kicked out at the last minute. It may work out fine for others, but it was a bad experience for us.

We were tired from traveling and cold, with our two-year-old, when we finally left to deal with Agoda. I don't know if I was wrong, but the situation felt fishy, especially when my bank later notified me that it had canceled a $150 transaction. At check-in, I was asked for my email and credit card number, expiry date, and CVV, which I refused to provide. I asked to swipe the card on a machine, but they said they didn't have one and kept insisting those details were required by their check-in policy. I couldn't check in without handing them over. I arrived at 4 p.m., as instructed, but nobody was in the office. The number on the door led to someone saying they'd tried to contact me using a strange phone number and email to complete the booking. I checked my inbox, messages, and everywhere else I could think of, and found no email. Agoda's booking confirmation clearly said no extra confirmation was required. I had to go to another nearby venue to meet this person face-to-face, where there were two people, a man and a woman, but nobody at Tiki to handle check-ins. When I asked to cancel, they pointed out the booking was nonrefundable. I left and decided to sort it out with Agoda.

The location is amazing, and the rooms are quiet and fairly large. Still, ours were filthy and seemed poorly maintained, with little attention to detail. One mattress had an unexplained red stain, and the toilet had been broken for two days without a repair. Luckily, our suite had two bathrooms. We'll look for somewhere else for next summer's holiday.

We chose the property for its location and because nothing else was available, but we won't return. The outside was filthy too, from the sidewalks and stairwells to the doors and parking lot. A railing on the back stairs was broken and could badly cut someone. Inside, the room and patio needed a thorough cleaning. Dust and cobwebs were everywhere, the windows and sliding patio doors were dirty, and the cutlery tray and drawers were grimy despite having few utensils. The bed skirt was filthy, and the space behind the furniture and underneath the bed was disgusting. The BBQ area had dust, grease, grime, and bugs, and the utensils were dirty from the previous guest. When we asked for the BBQ and patio to be cleaned, someone quickly wiped the sides of the BBQ but left the grime behind it. The patio may have been swept, but all the surfaces clearly weren't attended to.
