The Customs House owner helped make our October 2024 stay in Pictou a great start to our trip. I’d chosen the location to follow leads from Ancestry.com about my husband’s Scottish family, and the owner knew family members or people who had known them. It was mesmerizing and exactly the sort of information I’d hoped to find. We’re originally from Halifax and were on the trail of those family connections. The Museum being closed on weekends was unfortunate, since many tourists must visit then. The weather turned atrocious once we reached Cape Breton, so be aware that the northern end of the province seems to have weather of its own. Still, our time in Pictou was excellent.

We were happy with our stay. The rooms were clean, roomy, and comfortable, and the location made it easy to walk along the pier to the restaurants and shops. The owner had something come up and wasn’t there at check-in or check-out, but kept us informed, and getting into our room was still easy. Cute place.

The inn is an easy walk from the waterfront shops and restaurants, with plenty of local history around. Our room was spacious and very clean during our lovely overnight visit. We’d gladly stay again and definitely recommend it.

The town is easy to explore on foot, even for older folks like us, and the waterfront setting comes with incredible views. This is a very old building with a great history, converted into a deluxe hotel; the modern rooms keep its charm while offering the comforts we’re used to. Everything was clean and well maintained. I’d have liked an ice machine and a few picnic tables outside to enjoy the scenery. If we come back, this would be my first choice.

Doug was attentive throughout our stay and did everything he could to make it go perfectly. We were there for our son’s wedding, and the rooms were beautiful and very spacious. We’ll definitely come back. I hope you can get the bar up and running, it would be a great addition to an already wonderful place.
