Canalside Restaurant, Inn & Kitchen store

I keep forgetting to take a picture, so this time I only have the empty container. I’ll try to remember a real photo next time. UPDATE: burger photo added! The gluten-friendly bun holds together and doesn’t crumble, which gets a 10/10 from me. The burgers have no fillers, either. We’ve enjoyed everything we’ve ordered, and this is our favourite local restaurant. The food is SO GOOD. Whoever’s cooking gets 10 stars from me, 100 if I could. The burger is easily the best within 100 miles.

The canal-side setting adds a lot to the atmosphere. Our service was courteous and friendly, and they made sure we had what we needed. My salad was very tasty. My husband, who returned from Alberta in 2004, says his hamburger was the best he’s had in the Niagara region since then. A few hours later, he’s still raving about it.

We’ve had three dinners here across two stays, and we’ll be back to stay and eat again. The canal and boat views are lovely, and the Inn rooms have historic charm, little kitchens, comfortable beds, and nice furniture. The meals have been really good. We especially recommend the Mushroom Asiago Chicken, steak with compound butter, and Mongolian Bowl. The fresh seasonal vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes are great sides.

The waitress gave good service, but the food was a complete waste of money. I took one bite of the buffalo wrap and couldn’t eat more. It was a white wrap grilled around chicken soaked in Frank’s, with vinegar dressed lettuce and no mayo or cheese, maybe even a tomato. I’ve worked in pub kitchens, and this was a joke. The waitress didn’t ask why I’d left it, though she seemed to know what was going on with the food. The tortellini soup had freezer-burnt tortellini, too. I’ve heard this place can be hit or miss, and it missed today. Clown show. I’d find a new chef.
