I only had to stick it out from 8pm until 8am, and I’d have looked for somewhere else if I’d needed to stay longer. The room smelled unclean, and I started itching as soon as I lay in bed. Getting to the top bunks was awkward because the stairs weren’t accessible, so you had to climb onto the lower bunk and try not to wake the person there. Check-in was supposed to be available until 9pm, but at 8pm I got an email saying my room had been cancelled. I was still able to check in at 8:30pm, but the whole thing was strange.

Pierre was incredibly friendly and helpful, and the hostel was clean and secure. I spent a couple of months here and had a great time. It’s in a really good location and feels cosy, with a nice patio, a rooftop and all the facilities I needed. The bar across the street can get a bit loud if you’re on the street side. It didn’t bother me since I listen to music while I sleep. I’d definitely stay again if I return to Québec!

The location was the one good thing. The guy running the place wasn’t willing to help with bags before 4pm, so don’t count on leaving yours there if you arrive earlier. The rooms were dirty, and bugs got in through the unscreened windows. The bathrooms were gross, which I wasn’t surprised by. After two days I left and felt so relieved to be somewhere else.

The man who welcomed you was nice, but there was an older woman in the living room coughing and keeping an eye on everything. She wasn’t very friendly. The beds were okay, and I especially liked the pillows.

Pierre made my stay a lot better. He was really friendly and accommodating, and gave us tips about good places to eat and drink nearby. The hostel is in the adorable St. Roch neighborhood, and it’s a good cheap option if you’re after somewhere basic. The cheap bunks aren’t comfortable, and the bar across the street is noisy. Bring earplugs and keep expectations modest, and it’s a good deal in the heart of Quebec City. I saw some bad reviews about the customer service, but my experience with Pierre was great.
