Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Regina Downtown

We got a fair price at the Ramada using the medical rate, and extended our stay by a day. Both days were supposed to include underground parking. After parking one afternoon, we returned to the car about 15 minutes later and found a ticket. The counter staff were very kind and helped get it voided. The next morning, using the microwave tripped the breaker in our room and the one next door. The front desk fixed that quickly. But when we got to the car, there was another ticket. I was frustrated, though the staff were kind again and voided it. They didn’t really have an explanation because parking is contracted to Impark, not handled by Ramada staff. One suggestion: attach the shampoo, conditioner, and soap to the shower wall. It would be easier to use and would cut down on containers and waste, a greener option. Overall, the accommodations were very good.

We landed at the airport at 2 a.m. and got exceptional hotel service at 3. We were in bed by 4, and liked what we saw the next morning. Lunch in the lobby was very good, and checkout by noon went smoothly. At 30 below, we were glad to have underground parking. Checkout was great too.

The hotel did not live up to its price range. The furniture was old, the air conditioner was so loud it kept waking us, and from around 2 to 5 a.m. children ran through the hallway making noise and hitting doors. Nobody stepped in, so sleeping was impossible. Breakfast was presented misleadingly. We paid for it but there was no buffet, just a $20 voucher for a restaurant where prices were high and we’d have to pay extra if we went over the limit. Parking was another surprise at $19 a night, not clearly disclosed during booking. Too many hidden fees. At check-in, the front desk employee named Olha behaved in an openly unprofessional and discriminatory way. We asked a simple question in Russian. Staff don’t have to speak Russian, but she clearly understood and deliberately refused to respond or communicate because we were Russian-speaking. We were polite and calm and were intentionally ignored. That felt like clear discrimination, unacceptable in Canada and in hospitality. Staff overall seemed untrained and uninformed, unable to answer even basic questions about the hotel. We travel often and know what to expect from hotels in this category. This place falls short on service, comfort, transparency, and professionalism.

We’re staying here for a hockey tournament, and the place is dirty, old, and dated. A parent from our team is changing rooms after finding little orange bugs crawling all over theirs, including in the beds. They were three rooms down from us. That made me check our own room just minutes after the cleaner had finished “cleaning.” I didn’t see bugs, but I’d forgotten my glasses at home, so who knows. They could be bed bugs or cockroaches. When I asked the cleaning supervisor what she’d do about what I found in my bed, she replied, “do you want us to clean it?” Really. Watch the video.
