Sandman Hotel & Suites Vancouver Airport

Our flight was delayed by two hours, and the front desk agent quickly helped us figure out the shuttle. They also offered to have the restaurant call so we could order before closing and collect our food when we arrived. The restaurant called at the promised time, took our order kindly, and had it ready for us. Wonderful service from everyone.

We booked this for the final night of our trip because it's so close to the airport, and for that purpose it did the job. But at $350 a night, the value is way off. The staff seemed nice, and the front desk promptly gave us another room when the first one smelled of fish and cigarettes. That room didn't have an odor, but it still felt dirty and unpleasant. There were questionable marks on the walls, carpet and headboard, the carpet felt sticky, and the shower grout had lots of mold. The drain was so slow that using the shower left a pool of dirty water. Furniture, walls, ceiling and bathroom all showed patch repairs. We tried the pool too, but there was debris floating in it and pieces of duct tape on the deck, apparently covering broken tiles. They were slippery for kids. The AC was loud and kept cutting out, and even with the window closed we could hear cars and planes all night as if it were open. If we hadn't been travelling with our three-year-old, my wife and I would rather have slept in our rental car. I saw a hotel being built nearby and suspect it may replace this one. This place needs a complete redo or to be demolished. Never again.

David at the front desk made a real difference. He was warm, professional and caring, answered our questions, offered useful recommendations, and made us feel welcome. The whole team was friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed the breakfast and the service throughout our stay. Our room was comfortable, clean and well kept, and the location was great. Thanks to everyone for a wonderful visit. We'd definitely return and recommend the hotel.

We stopped here on the way to the airport and again on our way home. The shuttle was handy, the driver helpful, and the front desk staff especially friendly. The location is convenient, though reaching the bus stop meant a 10-15 minute walk. Google Maps made it easy to find, but that walk would be rough in bad weather. The rooms are a little dated, but they were clean, and we got a free upgrade to a suite once, which was great. The on-site restaurant was decent, though overpriced, with music played very loudly.
