Hôtel Universel in Rivière-du-Loup

We had a great experience. The hotel has 302 rooms and suites in several categories, including Classic, Excellence, and Club Privilege, with different features and budgets. Rooms have high-speed internet, refrigerators, microwaves, coffee makers, and modern amenities. There’s a full-service spa with massages, facials, body wraps, a sauna, hot tub, and Turkish bath/hammam. We found the restaurant decent, and the location works well if you’re travelling onward. But our room really brought the stay down. Opening the curtains to a concrete wall was pretty underwhelming, and the bathroom was ick. I’d hoped to enjoy a drink on a patio, but the only option was a dark bar with a poolhall feel. The staff seemed more focused on the convention guests when we arrived. I understand why, though it left me feeling like I’d paid more for less service.

The staff were very nice, and both the building and room were very clean. There was some minor pipe noise now and then when things were in use. I also liked the decor in the hallway on my floor. 4.6

Everything was fun and clean without being too fancy. The pool, spa, gym, and restaurant were all great. The only drawback was another guest letting their dog poop in the hallway. Staff cleaned it up right away and apologized.
