Auberge De La Pointe

We stopped here on a drive between Toronto and Halifax, and plan to use the hotel again when we head to Halifax next year. It's a convenient point on the route, with plenty of services nearby and lovely views of the end of the St Lawrence River. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the bathrooms were designed for two people to use at once. The restaurant looked amazing, though we didn't try it because we wanted to explore town. Guest parking is available, and the receptionist spoke English and was very nice and efficient.

We stayed one night on the way somewhere else. For the price, the rooms were decent and clean, with comfortable beds, and there's a restaurant on site. Vegetarians can get risotto, salad, or soup. We paid for the buffet breakfast at reception, but the woman serving us was very aggressive and came across as borderline racist. I didn't like that at all, and for that reason alone I won't return.

The outdoor spaces were a highlight, with lots of viewpoints, fire tables at night, and a great vibe. We also made good use of the pool, hot tub, and sauna, which says a lot since my wife is very picky about hotel pools. The dinner and breakfast buffet in our meal package were both excellent. Our top-floor room had a spectacular view of the St. Lawrence, and it was spacious, modern, and clean. The bed was among the most comfortable we've had in a hotel. It cost more than we usually look for, but we didn't regret it. The staff were friendly, professional, and welcoming. We had an excellent stay and hope to come back.

Our room was in one of the renovated motel buildings. The furnishings and size were okay, and the beds were very good. But the upstairs guest walked around until about 3:30 am, and the lack of sound insulation made it extremely loud, like elephants stomping. Even my husband, who usually sleeps through anything, couldn't sleep. At checkout I raised it with the front desk, and they said it was my fault for not telling them sooner. I asked if they'd have told the person to stop walking around, since they could have been sick. The real issue was the poor insulation. They didn't apologize and just blamed me. So rude, I wasn't impressed. The shower and toilet area in our bathroom was tiny, with hooks outside the room, so changing clothes was awkward, especially with our adult daughter traveling with us. Some towels were worn with threads hanging off. The Keurig had regular coffee and green tea but no decaf, so I had to ask at the front desk.
