SureStay Hotel by Best Western Rossland Red Mountain

The rooms are pretty standard for the price. The coffee was quite bad, both the in-room option and what they brought out for the continental breakfast. And in a ski town, the hot tub matters: it was maybe 100°F, with jets that barely moved the water. Pretty disappointing.

The beds were comfortable, and having a washer and dryer available came in handy. Cherri was exceptional. The man was okay, though I saw him run his fingers through his hair several times before putting the bread away in a bag. Don’t eat the bread. The hot tub was mediocre, and ice was hard to get, maybe ten pieces if you asked. We had to keep asking for breakfast refills. One female staff member was the grumpiest, rudest person we’ve ever met. The rooms were so dirty and smelled putrid, maybe from the carpets. There was hair in the sink, bathtub, on the tub walls, toilet, and ledge behind the bed. The microwave and fridge were dirty, and every wall had caked-on dirt. One bed still had a very wet bloodstain through to the bottom sheets. A staff member said housekeeping probably sprayed it, the stain soaked through, and the person forgot about it. Why try to spot clean instead of changing the whole thing? We brought cleaning supplies and bought quilts to put over the beds and lie on. I still shiver thinking about how dirty and smelly it was.

We arrived late, but the staff were lovely and check-in was quick. The rooms were clean and we had no problems during our stay. After checking out, we changed our minds and wanted another night. They got us back into the same room, cleaned it, and were super nice about it. Great place, really close to the mountain.

I’d never seen a bed bug before this stay. About ten minutes after we arrived, my wife shrieked and asked if the bug was one. I looked it up and, sure enough, it was. I collected it and took it to the front desk. The staff member seemed pretty nonchalant, though there wasn’t much he could do. I just said I didn’t want to stay. Where there’s one, there are almost certainly more. The room also smelled damp and musty and was generally run down. Parking was tight, too. My whole experience on site lasted about 20 minutes and was bad. I wouldn’t recommend it, and I’m surprised it has the Best Western name.
