Mohawk Motel Canada

The rooms were very dated and had an odor. During my quick check, I found stains and a hole in the bedding, along with dog hair, and there was mold on the bathroom ceiling. I took pictures because this was the first motel on our two-week trip to authorize a deposit, and I wanted proof in case they charged me for damage that wasn’t from our stay. We travel with two dogs and paid the $20 per pet fee, so I wish the owner had said upfront that dogs weren’t supposed to shed. This doesn’t feel like a pet-friendly place.

I’ll be coming back to this spot in Massey whenever I pass through. The owner, I assume, was one of the kindest people I’ve met, and I got a great night’s sleep with less road noise than at most Trans-Canada motels. My dog liked having space out back to run around, and the pet-friendly setup is a real plus. The rooms are a little dated, as you’d expect from a small old motel, but the place has charm and the beds were clean. I stay at places like this along the Trans-Canada quite often, and this is one of the best.

The location was great, and the woman who greeted our family really made the stay. My kid usually takes a while to warm up to people, but he enjoyed being there and playing.

We stopped because the roads were icy and were tired enough to just want off them. I wish we’d turned around after hearing the $150 price. The room was extremely dated, like nothing had been touched since the 80s, and the very firm bed had coils I could feel. People next door partied until 5 am, while the office wasn’t open to complain, so I barely slept. The TV was tiny, too, so you may as well use a tablet or phone. For that price, it wasn’t worth it. If you need a room, I’d suggest Espanola or Spanish. I don’t recommend this hotel.
