The kind front desk staff made our stay feel welcoming, and we enjoyed the continental breakfast and a nice conversation with him. I also loved finding out that Le Couvent had once been a convent, then later became a rehabilitation center. The building has a European look from the outside, and inside, the piano, old television, radio, and antique furniture gave it a museum-like feel. The lobby doors and curtains struck me as hospital-like, which made sense once I learned about its past. I work in healthcare, so I noticed that feeling right away. There are some things I hope the new administration will address. The water flow could be stronger to help clear the pipes and get rid of the metallic smell, and the heating needs attention, especially in winter. Interior room locks and a secure front entrance would also help, since there was no one at the desk overnight. I hope they might consider bachelor renters too, to bring in a livelier, more positive atmosphere. I was excited to explore the place and learn its history, and I think historic-property fans should visit and support it. Staying there helps preserve the building and move its modernization forward. It was a very good experience for us.

I still think about how frightening that night was. After seeing Jimmy Hunt play, I found three men waiting at the entrance to the covenant, including the older man who had tapped my bum with his cane while I was checking in. They followed me upstairs. I got into bed, then they opened my door. There were no locks, and I yelled at them to shut it. I called a friend and stayed on the phone for hours because I could hear the three men waiting outside my room. At check-in, other employees were present when the man touched me, and none of them said anything. The men seemed to span three generations, from an older man to a young one. I was learning French in Québec City at the time and couldn't understand what they were saying to me. I called the police the next day, but nothing was registered because I had reached the wrong jurisdiction. I hadn't slept and was leaving for Ottawa, so I just told friends and family what had happened. For solo women travelers, this place felt unsafe and scary to me. The worst experience ever.

We were a cycling group, and the owner went out of his way to make things work for us. It’s a good value for the price and works really well for hosting group events in the area.

The place is no frills, so keeping expectations modest worked out well. We had a great one night stay and would come back. The brasserie was only a short walk away, where the band we were seeing played. Take a tour of the hotel and the graveyard behind it. It’s most likely haunted.

Brigitte was especially attentive, and the staff were outstanding throughout our stay. For our family of six, the location also worked perfectly for our plans in town and nearby Trois Rivieres and Quebec City. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms clean, and each floor had a well-kept kitchen that was fully functional. We used the kitchen on our floor every day, which was a real plus for a large family. There was a separate dining room too, though we didn't use it. The kitchen had a table for six that didn't seem to be used by other people.
