Hôtel Roquemont

The bar area was lovely, with awesome microbrew beer, home-smoked bacon, and smoked salmon. There was plenty of parking for snowmobile trailers. The hotel itself was nice, but our room felt quite old and the beds weren't very cozy. We were there on a snowmobile trip.

We came for a hockey tournament and had early games, but the noise made it hard to sleep. On the first night, the attached bar, reached through a hallway, was full and rowdy. Then our neighbors came back and partied loudly past 1 a.m. There was no phone in the room and no staff at the desk to complain to. At 6:30 a.m., people were banging on doors and talking loudly, and sound carried clearly through both the inside and outside doors. They unloaded snowmobiles right outside our room and revved them for about 20 minutes. The bathroom has an open, European-style shower with no tub or glass divider, so the floor gets wet and it's messy going in and out. When I raised my complaints at the front desk, the owner came to speak with me and politely explained that this is the province's largest relay point for snowmobile trips. He said most guests come for that, like to party, and get up very early for the trails. That wasn't clear from the website when I booked. If I'd known, I would have chosen a nearby Airbnb. I was also shocked by the price of the rooms and food given the quality and service. If you're looking for a winter snowmobile or summer mountain biking stop where you can party with friends, it may suit you. If you're here to relax and unwind, I'd look elsewhere. It's been a long time since I've stayed somewhere this noisy.

A vehicle breakdown left us unexpectedly staying at the Roquemont for a week in May. We found a room for the first night, but were told we'd need to switch rooms if we stayed longer. When our one night turned into a week, the staff adjusted other bookings so we could remain in the same room. They were friendly and accommodating, and the rooms were clean with comfortable beds. The air conditioning units in the rooms could use a cleaning or an upgrade. We don't speak French, but the staff worked hard to understand us and communicate in English. Being patient with each other really matters. Even staff who didn't speak English smiled, tried to communicate, and made us feel welcome. That helped us through a stressful time. We were used to hotels where housekeeping is automatic, so it took until day three to realize we had to ask for it. Once we understood, we had nothing but good things to say. The restaurant food was incredibly good, and we really enjoyed the friendly, lively atmosphere.

We were having drinks and food at the bar when we were asked to leave because someone had reserved it. All the tables needed reservations too, so there was nowhere else to sit. Not an easy bar to relax in.
