Our room was in the newer Victorian-style building, with the decoration and antique-looking furniture we expected. The bed was large and very comfortable, and the spacious bathroom had great water pressure. It was peaceful and quiet, and while the TV was quite small, that didn’t bother us. There was plenty of parking and the place was easy to find. We stopped for one night between Montréal and Quebec City and were made to feel welcome by the lovely couple who run the place. The historic stone building houses reception, and that’s where we had continental breakfast. We didn’t explore the surrounding area, so can’t comment on it. The hosts speak English, which made communication easy for us. Thanks for having us, what a gem!

I stayed one night last January in the new motel, and upstairs it was so hot I felt like I was in a sauna. In the morning I told the owner that I’d tried to open a window, but it was screwed shut. She rudely said they don’t let people open windows in winter, and couldn’t explain why the upstairs was so hot. A good friend was meant to come with us but couldn’t make it. He had paid for the room in full and received a gift certificate for one night, but he recently told me the hotel now refuses to honor it. The woman who owns and runs the place with her quiet husband was rude, arrogant, and completely out of line. What a garbage hotel, or “Manoir,” as they call it. Beware and stay away if you don’t want to get ripped off.

We’d definitely come back to Auberge du Manoir. The place was clean, and there was secure bike parking with access to a bike pump. A grocery store was less than a five-minute walk away. The welcome was warm and personal, with genuine attention to us. Even though we only asked the day before, they made us an excellent breakfast with homemade bread and waffles.

The room could use some care: the carpet needs to go, and the bathroom needs freshening up. I stayed January 16th and 17th and checked out on January 18th. On the second day I had to ask for fresh towels. The owner said they’re changed every three days in France. I said we’re not in France, and he accused me of racism, blah blah blah. When I got back, there were just two towels on the counter, the rest were dirty, and the bed hadn’t been made. Very disappointing, especially the owner. I wouldn’t recommend it.

At 10:30 p.m., we ended up having to search for another hotel, 30 minutes away by car. We finally stayed at the Miami Motel in Trois-Rivières, where a very kind, welcoming woman greeted us. The room was clean, everything was in place, and we slept well. What a relief. The manager did offer to move us, but the second room was just as dirty, as though the hotel wasn’t operating properly. In the first room, the toilet was dirty, the sheets hadn’t been cleaned, there was dust everywhere, and the carpet was filthy. A strong cheap-potpourri smell seemed to cover up a musty odor. There was no soap or shampoo in the shower, and no care taken with the details. I don’t usually write reviews. I’ve traveled in countries where luxury wasn’t the norm, but the rooms were still clean and welcoming. This was really disappointing, and I wouldn’t wish the experience on anyone.
