Vance Creek Hotel & Conference Centre

I stayed at Chilcoot hotel, part of Vance Creek Hotel, with my club from December 5 to 12 this year. On December 7 at 10 a.m., my cross-country ski got caught in the grate just before the hotel entrance. A gentle nudge didn’t free it, so I asked manager Spenser to get a tool and push it out from underneath. Instead, he started wiggling it aggressively without a tool or calling an employee who might have experience with this. When I said he could damage the ski, he ignored me. Once he got it out, the sides and back were damaged. I’d only bought these skin skis this year, and this was just the second time I’d used them. When I raised the damage, he said I was a good skier and would manage. I think he was rushing to get the ski out because he didn’t want other clients to see that the grate could catch cross-country skis. A grate like this shouldn’t be installed right in front of a hotel entrance used by cross-country skiers. Before leaving, I spoke to him again about what happened. He didn’t apologize or offer any kind of compensation. I also couldn’t find the bra and camisole I’d worn on the plane. It seemed so bizarre that I only mentioned it to my roommate, thinking she might find them when unpacking, but they never turned up. I contacted the hotel and received no response. I’m left wondering whether it was some kind of revenge by the manager.

After a full day riding, we loved coming back to a comfortable room and relaxing in the hot tub with mountain views. The room was spotless and had everything we needed, and the lobby felt warm and inviting. Vance Creek is cozy and thoughtfully designed. The staff made us feel welcome from arrival. Everyone we met, from the front desk to housekeeping, was friendly and knowledgeable. They also gave us helpful suggestions for biking trails, local places to visit, and whatever else we needed. It felt like they really cared about making our stay memorable. The service, comfortable accommodations, and location made this a great summer mountain-biking getaway. Loved the atmosphere, and the Village location puts you right in the middle of things. The stairwell walls are full of SilverStar history, which was fun to see. Spencer booked us over the phone and checked us out, and was super helpful and friendly. Great staff, room, and service!

The staff were amazing, genuine, down-to-earth people, and we’ll definitely be back every year after our first visit to Silver Star. We stayed four nights in January 2025, right in the village with everything close by, including restaurants, shops, a convenience store, ski and board shop, candy store, and coffee and bakery. The kids had a bunk bed, while we had a separate room with a great view of the village. The hot tub on the snow-covered rooftop was amazing.
