Econo Lodge

We picked this place at the last minute during a three-day museum trip while visiting Ottawa, and it worked out really well. It's about an hour from the main attractions, but the value was great. The property is a little dated, yet extremely clean, quiet, and scenic, with lake views and plenty of parking. Fresh linen, comfortable beds, friendly and helpful staff, and a good included breakfast were all pluses. There's also a grocery store and fast food nearby. The room had a hair dryer, towels, soap and shampoo, a microwave, a small fridge, and a coffee maker. Good service and a fresh, quiet stay for the price. CG, Feb 2026

I booked through a third-party site at a discount, but when I arrived to check in, they told me a manager had decided not to honor the reservation. They said I had to get my refund through the booking site and that they would decline the payment on their end the next morning. I'm left scrambling to find a room for the night and just supposed to trust that I'll get my money back sometime soon? I felt completely confused and disrespected. I've never had a place treat a paying customer this way. The location is good, but the customer service was horrific. Stay far away. If you're looking for somewhere in Smiths Falls, DO NOT BOOK AT THE ECONOLODGE!!!

For the price, it's a good hotel. The rooms are worn but clean, and there's lots of parking space. The view and location are amazing.

The beds were clean, check-in was quick, and the staff were friendly. But the hotel is run down and feels like a once-nice place that's now in serious need of renovation, or even closure. We only stayed one night, and it did the job, but it was overpriced for what it offered. There are better deals nearby. The parking lot is unmarked and disorganized, with cars scattered around and no lights, which felt unsafe. Staff seemed to be trying to keep things clean, but the overall condition is beyond what they can manage. The elevator had dust and grime stuck in the overhead vent, and our floor looked half-abandoned, with rooms shut down or being renovated. Our door was hard to open, probably from too many layers of paint. Our room had a balcony in such poor shape that we couldn't use it, though the view was nice and hinted at better days. It came with a microwave, fridge, and coffeemaker, and the TV worked. The furniture was old, the walls were cracked, and the toilet didn't work properly. The AC was right beside the bed, so we had to cover it to avoid being blasted with air while sleeping. We didn't notice the cigarette smell other guests have mentioned. Breakfast was disappointing. The coffee tasted like it had been brewed several times, and the pancake machine only produced dime-sized, undercooked bits. The only real choices were bread, cereal, and yogurt, with no protein at all. If bread and weak coffee are enough for you, fine, otherwise skip it.
