Bras d'Or Lakes Inn

The cottage behind the hotel had a beautiful view, and we saw lots of wildlife. It was very cute, clean, updated, well located, reasonably priced, and had ample parking. The dock with seating was lovely, and complimentary kayaks were amazing. Still, for two adults and two kids, it felt too small. It would suit two adults and maybe one child better. We visited in the off season, when staff hours are limited and nobody is on site until 11 am. The restaurant had limited hours and was closed Mondays. The body wash container was empty, and the multi-head shower system was so rusty that the smell filled the shower. The hot tub had four seats but comfortably fit only two adults. That was enough space for the room, though it felt cramped. Worse, a board was missing from the steps into the tub, leaving two rusty screws sticking straight up where someone could easily step on them. I would have reported it in person, but no one was around. The pull-out bed was unbearable. I could feel every spring and woke with a spring imprint across my face. It’s a nice extra to have, but this one wasn’t suitable even for a child and needs a new mattress. I wouldn’t not visit again, but these things left the stay underwhelming.

The beds were the main drawback for me. They were too soft, and I felt like I might roll out. The dining room was open on limited days and hours, and the internet was notably slow. Otherwise, this was a very clean, welcoming, affordable motel with a quaint, somewhat rustic feel and a good location.

We celebrated our wedding anniversary with dinner here. The lamb, seafood chowder, and muscles were all delicious, well prepared, and seasoned just right. Thanks to the chef and staff at Bras d'Or Lakes Inn for such a lovely dining experience!

We were so happy with our choice that we stayed an extra night. The place was super clean, the staff were friendly, and we loved both the food and ambiance. For a cozy little town like this, the location is about as good as it gets. It’s not a JW Marriott, but judged against the location and nearby places, I’d give it five stars. I’d definitely come back if I’m here again.
