Auberge Duchesnay

The park beside the hotel was a lovely spot for a long walk and some fresh air, with a beautiful landscape. It’s dog friendly, too. The building was clean, and our room was beautiful. Breakfast was unreal.

The staff were friendly, the desserts were really good, and the room was spacious. We also enjoyed the winter activities. That’s about where the positives end for us. We stayed three nights and got no room service. The room wasn’t vacuumed, the bed wasn’t made, towels and toilet paper weren’t replaced, and the garbage wasn’t taken out. We had to ask reception for toilet paper, garbage bags, and towels. For a supposed four star hotel, that service is a joke. The pool was small, cold, and old, and the bed wasn’t comfortable. At the restaurant, they seemed to be trying, but the Angus steak was tough and tasteless, and the pasta seemed like the kind you buy in a package. On our last night, we found a potato chip and some medication under the bed that weren’t ours. That made us think the room hadn’t been cleaned properly before we arrived. After we got back, we came down with the flu, and it’s sad they don’t clean well enough.

Our chalet had loads of storage and places to hang things, and it was laid out really well. It was also large, clean, and right on the lake. We mainly chose the location for access to cycling paths, which were great. We didn’t need regular service, but whenever we needed something from the main lodge, they were helpful.

The accommodations were very basic, but the place had a cozy feel and plenty to do nearby. We really enjoyed hiking Le Rocher with our kids, who were 5 and 7. They had fun spotting the hidden animals along the trail. The pool and spa were great.
