We arrived late with nowhere else to go since everything was full. The staff were kind and helpful, and the main building looked fine, but I wouldn’t recommend the back rooms unless they fix them up. The first room looked old but maybe okay, and the beds seemed clean. Then we heard a noise in the bathroom and found the sink full of water. The people upstairs were showering, and water was coming through our ceiling. Staff quickly moved us upstairs and were very nice about it. The stairs looked like they were being repaired, and the whole balcony was rotten, so be careful walking there. Our second room looked old but passable, with no bugs, but the sheets were stained with what looked like pee and blood. The towels were worse than the rags I use at home, worn right through the middle. We used our own blankets, and the bed itself was decent. There was a house beside the hotel with a woman offering her services, which wasn’t something I wanted the kids to see. At 7 a.m. nobody was at the desk and the doors were locked, so we had to leave our keys in the room. An unfortunate start to our holiday.

The staff were awesome and very friendly, and the rates are great. This cute old place has beautiful character, including antiques, and the kitchenette rooms are wonderful. Ours had a couch with attached lazy-boy recliners, which was a first for me. It felt warm and comfortable, with all the comforts of home. The last time we were in Stephenville, we paid a lot for a hotel that didn’t compare to the Dreamcatchet lodge. We liked everything and will stay here every time we come to town.

I was put off by being told at check-in that a $300 hold would be placed on my credit card for possible damages. I don’t run into that at many hotels, and it made me feel more cautious during my stay. The room itself was clean and comfortable, which was a plus. Still, the stained hallway carpet and a broken window in one stairwell gave the place a run-down feel. Some upkeep would help. The Dreamcatcher Lodge is an average roadside motel that does the job, but I’d probably look at other hotels first next time I’m in Stephenville.

We stayed on May 18th, and the room was not too bad, though the walls need some TLC and the paint is in rough shape. The shower hadn’t been cleaned properly, and the bathroom fan was clogged with dust and black mold from the moisture, so it wasn’t working right. The walls and floor are paper thin too. We heard noise from upstairs late into the night and lost half the night’s sleep, even though we had to get up early to catch our boat home. There should be a key drop box for early checkouts instead of having to leave the key in the room.

My husband and I booked a year ahead to spend the night of our wedding, August 17th, at dreamcatcher. We were told we’d get rose petals on the bed and champagne, but there was nothing, and the beds hadn’t even been made. My husband and his best man had stayed there the night before. The excuse was that the new cleaning crew didn’t know how to set that up. They should have shown the crew what to do. The woman who took our reservation was also the one who checked my husband in, and she said we hadn’t called back, even though we called in January, again in April, and once more a week before the wedding to confirm the room. The notes should have been passed along. Having an untouched room and none of the promised wedding touches was a huge disappointment, and we were very unhappy with the service.
