Sun Peaks Lodge

I can't recommend staying at Sun Peak Lodge. Most of the front desk staff were fine, but one night-shift employee was rude, dismissive, and very hard to communicate with. Her manner made the place feel hostile and unwelcoming, exactly when you don't want that after a long day. The temperature control seemed broken or useless. Even with the thermostat off, hot air kept blowing, making the room painfully hot and dry. Opening the window didn't help as a solution, since traffic noise starts around 4 a.m. It felt like choosing between overheating and losing sleep. You also have to rent a microwave, which seems ridiculous for a basic amenity and feels like nickel-and-diming. The sauna and jacuzzi are advertised, but the chemical smell was so strong it burned my eyes. I found the facilities basically unusable unless you enjoy breathing harsh chemicals. The only redeeming feature is being close to the ski lifts. The staff attitude, room comfort, and extra charges made the stay frustrating and not worth the money.

We were only there for one night, but were very happy with the stay. The hotel sits in a lovely spot, and our room looked out over the pretty pedestrian area. The beds were very comfortable, and unlike many hotels, there was a kettle and sockets by the mirror. The bathroom and shower were lovely, and toiletries were provided. There's only one lift, but the hotel isn't high-rise, so we never waited long.

The location is good, and while the rooms are dated, they were clean. Customer service is lacking. The front desk clerk didn't know where the first aid kit was or how to use it. When the car we were using left a small coolant or fluid drip in the garage, the owner/manager "Mario" became visibly upset. I apologized and tried to calm things down, but he got even more confrontational and stormed off. He seemed easily upset and unstable to me. The resort doesn't seem to have basic customer service skills or know how to handle people and make guests feel welcome. Read the reviews before booking.

The beds were comfortable and the location was great. Staff were exceptional and went above and beyond when we left something behind in our room. They made a real effort to help us get it back, and we were very grateful.
