Clydesdale Inn

The room matched the website photos, with a cozy bed and a simple setup. It had a bit of character you won't find just anywhere, though the pillow had a small stain and I wasn't sure about the blanket. Our stay was let down most by the room upkeep. Laura, the pub bartender, kindly handled our check-in while serving the whole pub and did her best to make us comfortable. There was a $200 credit card cleaning deposit that hadn't been mentioned in the booking details. Julie, the bartender the next day, was also wonderful. She said she'd tell the liquor store staff about the clogged toilet, and someone did appear to service the room while we were out. Nearly ten hours later, we came back to find new towels, but the toilet was still clogged and the dirty towels were still there. The water pressure was low, and the toilet clogged on the first night. Julie even found us a plunger around midnight, just before locking up. We didn't have a full set of clean towels at first because the previous guests' towels were still damp and dirty in the closet, so we had to ask for more. We were told the liquor store staff handle the rooms, while pub staff only check guests in and out. Thanks as well to the liquor store employee working the night of Dec. 16, who helped us find the right stairway to get back in late. The staff were attentive and kind, but room maintenance really fell short.

I had nowhere else to stay, so I paid far too much for the worst room I've ever had in Canada. The whole place was dirty, with long black hairs left in the shower by a previous guest. The furniture was battered and wobbly. I won't stay here again.

The beer is good and cold, and the price is fair. Catch the magician performing while you're there if you get the chance, you'll love it.

Friendly staff, ice cold beer at a reasonable price, and food specials that were okay for what they cost.
