Harry texted me after our stay saying the toilet seat cover was broken and the charge was $150. My sister said the cover was loose at the back and only needed tightening. It has been used and lifted by lots of people over the years this property has been rented out, so I don't see why I should pay for ordinary wear and tear. Harry seems to think renters should cover that. He also charged us $120 for cleaning, but no cleaner came by during our stay. The location is great for tourists, but Harry made us uncomfortable by repeatedly turning up at the property after telling me he didn't live there. He also took an $800 damage deposit. I don't know if he was anxious we might steal furniture or bring more people than we had listed on Booking. Was that greed, or what?

The landlord kept showing up, and that intrusion soured the stay. The listing says the common areas are shared, but he made us feel like we should stay in our room. Maybe the reviews will help him treat renters better. My impression was that he couldn't learn or improve, and would only justify his inconsiderate behavior.

The owners were very welcoming, and breakfast was good. We arrived by city bus from the US border, and the street was quiet. Our room was spacious, with its own bathroom.
