Red Dog Inn

The Drifter is a lovely place to stay, with friendly, prompt service. It’s clean and very affordable. But don’t bother calling or emailing to ask about a room. I waited nearly a week for a reply, and by then my trip had already come and gone.

You can easily get around town on foot, with a grocery store, pharmacy, pet store, and a couple of restaurants just a short walk away. There’s also a pretty good Pizza Hut Express in the hotel. The rooms were a little dated, which is understandable for a small-town hotel, but clean and looked after. The showers had good pressure. A pretty decent budget stay.

The room was dated but clean, and the other guests staying that night seemed fine. I was curious about the website’s “dining room overlooking Lake Superior,” but when we arrived it wasn’t operating. Returning the keys was a bit confusing: there was a drop box, but everyone else seemed to leave theirs on top of a post. I didn’t want to risk an extra charge, so I did the same. I stayed at the Red Dog Inn in summer 2024. It was about what I expected from a small-town motel, and nothing about the stay really stood out.

My vehicle broke down, so I stayed one night, and they charged me 450. The service was rude and ignorant, and I found it unacceptable. The rooms are beyond garbage. Don’t give them your credit card number, either, because they’ll charge you when you’re long gone. I write a lot of honest reviews, and this is my first bad one. Buyer beware.
