Motel la Siesta de Gascon

We booked and paid for a non-smoking suite with a king-size bed, but were given a small room with a double bed. The wifi didn’t work at all, and the rooms smelled strongly of smoke. The receptionist sent us to an ATM down the road for cash because their card reader wasn’t working, then kept speaking French and acted as if the broken machine was our fault. When we asked why we hadn’t received what we paid for, she told us to wait until the manager came in the next morning because she supposedly didn’t have permission from her boss to do her job. The manager never showed up. We had to talk to two other reception or service staff who didn’t seem able to communicate properly or had authority to resolve anything. The manager told them by phone to say we should get over it and leave because we were “wasting” their time. I’m leaving out some of what was said and how the staff acted because I’m concerned this review might get filtered otherwise. This was not a proper place to stay. If you consider yourself an honorable, respectful, decent person, avoid this motel. We faced problems throughout and dealt with rude, abusive, unprofessional management and staff. Don’t waste your money or ruin your vacation on a place that doesn’t even meet third-world country standards.

The smell was pretty bad, and my girlfriend was scared to stay there. Travelocity’s photos didn’t look anything like the actual room. I was quoted $80 but paid $100, and I wouldn’t pay more than $40 to stay here. I wouldn’t book it even to save money. When I checked the bed, the second sheet layer had dirt and dead skin on it. Luckily I had my own sheets with me for a bodybuilding show in montreal, so I stripped the bed and used those. The police drove through the parking lot three times during the six hours I was there trying to sleep.

For a quick getaway, the price was right, the bed was comfortable, and the jacuzzi tub was nice. Our jacuzzi suite had a fridge but no microwave. The room was dark and mostly clean, though it wasn’t spotless; nothing gross, either. It’s a motel that feels dated and pieced together, with stucco decor that’s a bit jarring. There are several restaurants within an easy walk, including Buffet Des Continents, a Creole place, and others. The staff tried to help us in English, though speaking some French was useful.

The photos showed a fireplace and a king-size bed, but neither was there. The desk said the pictures should have been removed because someone lives there. We paid $260 for two nights and got nothing included. My 15-year-old was impressed by the three English satellite channels. Can’t wait to get back to Morin heights motels. I have plenty of pictures, including pink mold in the shower.
