The one-bedroom cabin was comfortable, with an equipped kitchen, a cozy gas fireplace, and a lovely beachfront location. The price seemed reasonable for the setting and accommodation. I enjoyed our one-night stay, though the amenity information could be clearer. The website lists a sauna and hot tub, but the sauna is run by a separate company and costs extra. Also, only some cabins and rooms have private hot tubs, so it’s worth checking before booking. Check-in is at 4:30 pm. We arrived around 4:10 and were asked to come back in 10 minutes. The cabin looked ready when we walked over, but after returning, we were asked to wait again while staff said someone was finishing up. Another guest was getting keys, and the cabin appeared empty to us. Checkout is 10:30 am. Clearer communication about amenities and check-in and checkout times would improve the experience.
The surf bungalow was new and nicely finished, but very cramped. The bed took up most of the room, leaving nowhere to sit except on it or outside. I’d give the stay 3.5/5, or maybe a 3. I’d stayed at the campsites a couple of times before and decided to try the bungalows. On a rainy day we tried to work remotely in the resort lobby, but were told we had to buy food or drinks to use the tables, which was different from our earlier experience. Staff explained that the old cafe lobby is now an independent cafe and no longer works as a lobby, so people can’t just hang out there like they used to. That was disappointing. With the tight space, construction around the property, basic services, and no indoor common area, the resort fell short of what we expected. The experience was mid. :(
We had two cabins right on the beach, each with a full kitchen, comfy beds, and a nice grassy area just outside for the kids to play. From the deck hot tub, we watched beautiful sunsets. There was even a fully decorated Christmas tree, with decorations made by a very talented employee. We just spent an amazing week at Mackenzie Beach Resort with the whole family. The staff were great, the atmosphere was relaxed, and nothing else is like it.
The outdoor area was great, though I wish it had a bit more privacy. The surf bungalow had everything we needed, and outside noise was audible but didn’t affect our stay. It’s close to the beach, and the staff were friendly. Parking can get a little tight when cars aren’t pulled fully into their spots.
We had a quiet, peaceful stay in a nice suite for a few nights in September. It was easy to drive to surf or into town for dinner. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom and shower were good, and having a mini fridge and kettle for tea and coffee was handy. We also enjoyed sitting by the propane fire. The BBQ and hot tub were great touches. I’d happily stay here again :)
