L.A. Acres Bed & Breakfast

The part we remember most is getting to know Karen and Nick. We had a lovely time talking with them and felt like part of the family. We'll stay at L.A. Acres again whenever we're nearby, and tell anyone considering a BC visit about it. We can't imagine them being disappointed. We spent four nights there in August, and the place ranks among the best B&Bs we've experienced. The mansion sits right by the U.S. border, about a 40-minute drive from downtown Vancouver, B.C. It's impressive without feeling imposing. A pretty gate opens onto a long driveway, flowers, and an open field. Inside, the foyer has high ceilings, lots of light, hardwood floors, elegant but welcoming furnishings, and a picture of Nick as a young man that reminded us of Bobby Kennedy. Karen's accents add comfort and visual interest without being intimidating. The porch has a guest fridge for those extras you might want, and it's a nice spot for early coffee or a late snack. The pool is spacious, clean, warm, and lined with comfortable chairs and loungers. The three rooms each have their own charm, plenty of luggage space, elegant bathrooms with walk-in showers, quality towels and bathrobes, and comfortable beds with lovely coverlets and pillows. We didn't use the flat-screen TV because we were busy, but the internet worked fine. Breakfast was generous, and the Keurig made it easy to have fresh coffee anytime. Downstairs there's a billiard table, comfortable chairs, and a theater, though we didn't use those either. The grounds were well cared for. The nearby horses were a treat, and Bella, the border collie, was friendly and liked watching animal shows on TV. Two black cats live outside and don't pay much attention to visitors. Langley municipality has its own attractions, and the drive into Vancouver was easy for a more urban outing. We visited Vancouver Island and Butchart Gardens, and spent a day at Stanley Park, all worth the time. There's a laundry if needed.
