Moon and Sixpence

Alice was incredibly warm and hospitable, and her suggestions for places to see in Ucluelet and Tofino were valuable. We stayed in the spacious-bathroom King size Thistle room with my partner over the weekend. Breakfast was fresh and made with care, the place was clean, and we enjoyed the sunset view each night. Even during the hottest weekend of the summer, the ocean breeze kept things comfortable for sleeping. We’ll definitely return.

It’s a quiet home on a local street, and the prices are reasonable. The owner is friendly and makes a good breakfast, but there’s no nice view. Since it’s outside town, you need a car. I’d booked an upstairs room but was moved to the basement. The basement room had its own kitchen, which I never used since I went out for lunch and dinner, and it smelled unpleasant. A bit disappointing.

The included breakfast was spot-on, lovingly made from scratch by the owner and innkeeper, Alice. There was plenty of parking, and the rooms were clean, well prepared, simple, and uncluttered. The cozy lounge had an incredible view, and if you’re lucky you might spot Eagles. Alice’s warm, upbeat, caring nature and her exciting, intriguing stories made our Ucluelet visit even better. She gave my partner Kim and me a beautiful experience. We’ll definitely stay here again.

We couldn’t sleep during the two days we stayed in her basement suite. The beds and bedding were very old and dated, and the bedding and towels were somewhat threadbare. The pillows were worn out, too. I’d rather have emailed her than post publicly, but she ignored my message, so I felt I had to let others know. We were very disappointed.
