The place is GORGEOUS, with beautiful sights and a private feel. The facilities are basic but did the trick, and I’ll be back. I don’t get why some people were so harsh about the road. My low car, which is about to fall apart, made it in fine as long as I went slowly. Maybe some people are just city folk and nervous about gravel. The complaints about no water also seemed to come from people who didn’t read the check-in emails, which warned them. The host (zach?) was helpful and gracious.

We spent a weekend in their off grid yurt and it was the best overnight stay I’ve ever had. It was so nice not having power. The little fireplaces kept us warm through the night, and we cooked on the provided BBQ. The beds were comfortable, with plenty of extra blankets, and the shower and washroom were clean and just a short walk away. There’s also a private beach, and every time I went there, I was the only person around. The hosts were friendly and responsive. Cell service was a bit patchy, though I expected to have none. It’s tucked just outside town but feels like the middle of nowhere. I’ll definitely be back.
We found a lovely, private spot under giant trees, surrounded by gorgeous banana slugs, with a beautiful beach nearby. The cove felt quite private, and the tide pools and rocks were amazing. Some sites are much better than others, and even though several with gorgeous beach views stayed open during our whole stay, we couldn’t switch once we’d reserved. We tried emailing the operators and never heard back, and they were difficult to reach. The camp hosts were a very nice couple who surf all day, so you’ll see them later. They’ll bring firewood if you text them. The rocky drive in takes about seven minutes and really isn’t bad: go slowly the first time, then it’s fine and not an inconvenience. One thing to know is that the water can’t be used for cooking, drinking, or even boiling, so bring your own. You can shower with it, but a young child who might drink it can’t. There’s a dishwashing station. We loved our stay here, and had read other reviews first.
The view is INCREDIBLE, but the yurt stay was mediocre, and I wouldn’t pay more than we did. We got in during the off season for about $140 a night, which felt like a lot for a walled shelter and some futons. High season prices are INSANE. There was no potable water at all. We had to wash dishes and shower in yellow water. The hosts provided generators that apparently only run a single lamp and aren’t supposed to be used for anything else, including charging a phone. One night, I forgot to turn mine off and was woken abruptly by a high-pitched squeal from it. The yurts are painfully close together, and we got a noise complaint on our first night. In the morning, the bathroom lights kept going out every minute because the generator couldn’t power all the bathrooms, and two were out of service. There were few dishes, nowhere to sit, and the bedding was subpar. The hosts were awkward.
We camped here for four days in early September, and it’s one of the best places to camp, hands down. From the parking lot, it was about a three-minute walk to our site, and all you hear once you arrive is the ocean. It’s roughly 2.5 hours from Nanaimo, plus you still have to drive from the highway to the parking lot. At $99 a night for an oceanside campsite, the price was absolutely reasonable and worth it. The site is about 10 minutes from Ucluelet. They’re strict about storing anything scented in the food caches; follow the rules carefully and you should be good.
